Here’s what I’ve learned at Swing Dance Camp:
- As the song says, it really ain’t what-cha do. It’s the way hat-cha do it.
- The Swedish word for “yeah” is “yah”.
- Moves you know from one style actually really do translate into other styles.
- It’s perfectly okay to trip your partner, but it then becomes your job to keep her butt off the floor.
- Bill Nye the Science Guy is a Lindy Hopper! He was in our morning class this morning! No, I didn’t go do my drooling fanboy number for him. But yes, I wanted to. Word is he’s down at the evening dance right now.
- Dances really do get more fun after 2:00 am
- Human circadian rhythms are fragile things, easily messed with. I’m sure Bill Nye and I could have a fine conversation about that, if we both weren’t busy dancing. After yesterday’s 3:00 lesson, I really expected it to be dark outside. When we quit dancing at 2:30 this morning, I was ready for lunch.
