Crikey: RIP Steve “Crocodile Hunter” Irwin

Steve Irwin, Australia’s most prominent and enthusiastic wildlife expert and naturalist, died yesterday from the sting of a stingray he was filming off Australia’s north coast.
I always admired Irwin’s work, both on screen and off, and enjoyed his televised antics. His death is a huge loss for environmentalism worldwide, not just in Australia. My heart goes out to his wife Terri and their children.
